Went out to take some photos today around 5PM. The waters in Pierce County look great with a bit of color in them and water temps warming. I ran into stone-flies about an inch and a half long. Fish were actively feeding on them in the fast water, visibly coming out to get them! It was so cool. Bring along a #10 prince or stone fly imitation if you are going to fish late afternoon in the next few days.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThanks so much for your dilligence and commitment to postings, pictures, and updates on the Pierce Cty WI streams Andy. It is a real gift to have you in the flyfishing community. Duane
Skipped work yesterday and fished the Rush extensively. I used brown streamer with orange rubber tentacles (a product of winter goofing around on the vice with bourbon as an inspiration). One of my best days ever on that river. I caught lots of aggressive brookies and at dusk caught two beautiful browns (20 and 17) back to back.
What a day! Thanks to this site for all the information and inspiration and day dreams. God bless spring.
I want to echo the previous comment – thanks so much.
I saw a couple of the same stoneflies, and one good rise, on the lower Kinni Monday afternoon but didn’t have much luck fishing either dry or nymph versions.
I will second that comment from Duane. Planning on fishing this weekend in WI. I guess I better tie a few #10 Prince too. Mark
I was out on the lower Kinni on Tuesday and the water is indeed in great shape. Typical clear and relatively low for this time of the year. Did not get a water temp. I saw one small stonefly fluttering on the water. Nothing else. No midges, no baetis, no anything coming off. Thought more would be seen given that the sky was grey. Still able to take 5 fish on small PT’s with two at 13-14 inches on 6X. The fish are in the margins and slower runs. As you walk along the bank you will see that you will spook quite a few. Dredging the depths with nymphs produced nothing. Great to get out and things should be getting better when the baetis start coming off in earnest.
All great comments and experiences. I was out today and found I did more reveling in the beautiful day than catching fish, found a few though.
Thanks guys
